This is short for Language creation game, which I preside. We are in the process of making a contructed language. For the fun of it, and therefore, it will seem pretty alien. But it's the freedom of creation that motivates us.

You can join us if you want to, all that is going on about Lang Game can be seen at the fallowing newsgroup: alt.language.artifitial

This site is the official archive, I'm president Decker, I've been elected after Xenome the dictator left.

PHONETIC ALPHABET:

It has been voted during Xenome's administration, that phonems would be represented with the SAMPA (or X-SAMPA) chart, which offers an equivalent in ASCII of each IPA sound. You can find information about SAMPA at the fallowing link:
www.phon.ucl.ac.uk/home/sampa/home.htm

GAME PHASES:

Phase 1: phonemes
Phase 2: orthography & ASCII orthography
Phase 3: (basic) morphology
Phase 4: (basic) grammar
Phase 5: advanced revisions on morphology and grammar

This order was determined by Xenome, and I am fallowing it, although we will see how things go as we move on...

PHASE ONE: (closed)

Xenome set the rules for phase one: Using SAMPA, example, description, or hopefully all 3, each participant in this game may declare EITHER:

a) three consonant phonemes
b) one vowel phoneme
c) two vetoes of previously declared consonants
d) one veto of a previously declared vowel

Each participant may have one turn per calendar week.
Limit of 7 vowels and 21 consonants. (note that if phonemes are vetoed
after limit has been met, more must be declared)

Once the voting started we had already tons of strange exotic sounds, some were vetoed, others were accepted:

[Xenome] /x/ /p/ /?/
[Automort] [!] /T/ /D/
[A. Zimbwe] /z/ /N/ bilabial trill
[J. A. Burns] /t/ /k/
[Decker] /y/ /S/ /Z/ /g/ /d/ /R/
[JTR] central,open-mid,rounded,nasal
[Matt Korson] /l\/ vowel as bottle
[Klaus] /O/ /2/
[Bob Offer-Westort] /r\/ vowel as in water.
[Marsh] /{/ a of cat.
[Talysman] veto /!/ and /?/, vote /s/
[Lewis Newstom] /f/ /v/ /b/
[Daniel Andreasson] /m/ /n/ /j/

Things started to slow down when summer hollidays put everybody back at work, I closed phas one as we had enough sounds, for our language: 21 consonants and 7 vowels. Here is the list in SAMPA, exept for the bilabial trill and the central,open-mid,rounded,nasal.

/t/ /T/ /p/ /k/ /d/ /D/ /b/ /g/ /s/ /z/ B /S/ /Z/ /n/ /m/ /f/ /v/ /N/ /j/ /x/ /R/
A~ /y/ /O/ /2/ /{/ /r\/ /l\/

PHASE TWO:

I started phase 2, first step was to simplify our phonetic ASCII alphabet, now that we had the 28 sounds. So I asked each partcipant, to make his personnal character chart:

Some of the values were easy to, set when you have 100-80% of something, you don't argue very long: /t/ t /p/ p /k/ k /d/ d /b/ b /g/ g /s/ s /z/ z /n/ n /m/ m /f/ f /v/ v

Others were complicated, so I imagined what, each person would have voted, in a second turn, but of course if I had imagined wrong they just needed to send a note

The fallowing might become (--->):
